Information on the cameo
Team Rocket (Japanese: ロケット団 Rocket-dan) is a villainous team in pursuit of evil and the exploitation of Pokémon. They are based in the Kanto and Johto regions, with a small outpost in the Sevii Islands.
While its main focus is stealing or capturing rare and strong Pokémon to subsequently sell them, it also funds and conducts cruel experimental research on Pokémon. At times, it has even killed Pokémon. Their oath, as posted on the wall of one of their many bases, is "Steal Pokémon for profit. Exploit Pokémon for profit. All Pokémon exist for the glory of Team Rocket." Their ultimate goal is to take over the world using Pokémon.
A trio of Team Rocket field agents—Jessie, James, and a talking Meowth—were defeated on an assignment to steal Pokémon from Viridian City's Pokémon Center by rookie Trainer Ash Ketchum and his Pikachu, and have followed him everywhere on his journey since then in order to steal the Pikachu that humiliated them. However, despite the multiple attempts throughout the series, they ultimately fail to do so every time, ending up being "blasted off" again and again.
Appearance in the rap battle
Team Rocket appeared during Ash Ketchum's line, "When it's time to train, I turn to Pikachu!" During the line, "But when I need a weak verse, I choose you!", Team Rocket can be seen sneaking behind Ketchum and attempting to capture his Pikachu. At the end of the line, Pikachu thunder-shocked the two, causing them to "blast off" and briefly appear behind the HMS Beagle as they launched to the sky.
- A preview of Team Rocket was shown in a video of Nice Peter, along with Ash Ketchum and his Pikachu in the background.
- They are the ninth and tenth characters to cross the "line" (the separation of the two backgrounds in a side-to-side scene) in a battle.
- The way they exit the battle is a reference to the anime where the two would fail in most episodes to capture Pikachu or the Pokémon they were targeting, ending up being "blasted off" by explosions or, in this case, Pikachu's electric shock.
