The Get a Mac commercial is where both Steve Jobs and Bill Gates rapped during their second, fifth, and, in Jobs' case, seventh verses in Steve Jobs vs Bill Gates.

Information on the location

The "Get a Mac" commercials were one of Apple Inc.'s longest-running ad campaigns, airing in the United States from 2006 to 2009. In each ad, a "PC" (portrayed by satirist John Hodgman) and a "Mac" (portrayed by actor Justin Long) would compare their features and debate their individual advantages.

Each ad in the campaign took place in a bare, all-white room with limited use of props. Each would also open as follows:

Mac: "Hello, I'm a Mac."
PC: "And I'm a PC."

In some ads, PC could be seen launching schemes to beat Mac before the conversation started, instead of the usual opening. While the suit-and-tie-clad PC usually bumbled and stumbled in his various attempts to be the better machine, the tee-and-jeans-clad Mac kept his cool and called things as he saw them, which usually embarrassed PC and proved Macs were the smarter choice.

Appearance in the rap battle

This is the location where both Jobs and Gates rapped during their second and fifth verses in a manner more similar to talking than rapping. Jobs rapped his seventh and final verse here before "turning heaven a profit" and departing from the battle.

Trivia

  • This is the first location to not use a green or blue screen, as it was filmed in front of a white screen.
  • Bill Gates is in the location where PC stands and Steve Jobs is in the location where Mac stands in the commercial.
  • The white screen where this segment is filmed is also the place where the Epic Dance Battles of History videos take place.
  • This is the second commercial to be used as a background in a battle, after the OxiClean commercial.
