Compton, California, is where Frederick Douglass briefly rapped in Frederick Douglass vs Thomas Jefferson.

Information on the location

Compton is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States, south of downtown Los Angeles. Compton is one of the oldest cities in the county, and was the eighth city to incorporate in 1888. Due to its geographic centrality in the county, it has become known as the "Hub City".

Compton's violent reputation was established in the 1980s after its poor economic state led to crime. Notable gangsta rap groups such as N.W.A. and Compton's Most Wanted were popularized, with their prominence further endorsing legal offense. The city has since become notorious for its gang violence and drug crimes.

Appearance in the rap battle

This is the location where Frederick Douglass briefly rapped. He appeared in Compton at the start of his first verse, referencing the city from the rap song "Straight Outta Compton,"[1] with the lines, "You finished? …Okay. Straight outta bondage!" It transitioned to Cedar Hill as he said, "A brainy mother fucker here to diss you!" His actions in the location directly imitate rapper Ice Cube's from the music video of the song. Similar to the music video, a re-election poster for former Mayor Wesley Fenderson can be seen behind Douglass' legs.

Trivia

  • It is the second location to be based on a music video, after Bohemian Rhapsody.
    • It is the first based on a real location.
